i was wondering if its would be possible to follow the method to produce Palladium on carbon but instead of using carbon using vermiculite because it
is heat resistant. then load that vermiculite infused with palladium into a loose tea strainer to make a device that would act similar to the

you also need a fuel, hand warmers use zippo fuel, the catalyst part is quite small and is made of silica, you could try some quartz wool or silica

I bought a hand warmer and spare catalyst pads to 'have a play'
the catalyst pads are so cheap at £0.99 each inc. p&p. that it is not worth d.i.y.

Have you checked out the sodium acetate hand warmers? I've seen some that are meant for medical use and are "disposeable". They were purple for some
reason (the acetate liquid) but it used the nucleation disc just like all the other ones. I think I saw them for $.99 each when you buy 8 or 12 on
amazon. I just searched "disposeable medical hand warmer blood warmer". They are meant to increase blood flow to an area to make drawing blood
easier. And to re-use them, just boil in water.
On another note, does anyone know where to buy just these discs or can you recommend something else that would work (it has to work in a pre-sealed
bag, not dropping in a crystal or something like that).

Why is Pd catalyst needed for the exothermic reaction? I haven't heard of Fe or NaOAc based hand warmers using Pd as catalyst.kulep - 12-11-2018 at 10:11
