Someone Who Isn't Me.

Often used by those describing procedures they don't care to admit that they have done. It isn't necessary for any reason, e.g. one can always write '1.0 mol of isosafrole was added to 1.0 mol of peracetic acid' or whatever, without stating that you yourself had performed the procedure you don't want to admit to.

It sound silly, and not on the level, which is why it is frowned upon here. The standard language in normal chemistry papers is just fine and not any more incriminating.

It's commonly encountered on druggie-cookery forums and fopr that reason is strongly discouraged here.

To the best of my knowledge, a kewl, or the other way of spelling that I have encountered on this board; k3wl, is basically a person lacking of knowledge in a subject, and is often irresponsible. They mostly just want to make a "bomb" or a really loud bang and out of confusion, they join this forum looking for an easy, non-experimental way of going about it.
Which, we all know this forum, and its people are here to learn, experiment, and expand their understanding of the world around them, not just 'blow up shit' like a kewl would want to do.

That is the correct definition of kewl, right?

Both kewls and swims are not interested in the science and chemistry at all. They only go for the effect. The kewl goes for a fast 5 minute recipe for a big BOOM, the swim goes for a 5 minute recipe for some spirit-'enhancing' chemical.

Starman, you need to check out the Urban Dictionary like I did!

http://www.urbandictionary.com/

It's all a bit pathetic, really!

I was going to use a definition from Urban dictionary for kewl, but I didn't think they went so well with the SMDB's definition. I think we use it a little bit differently then the majority of the people.

Kewls like to do things that make them look "Kewl" to other adolescents.

ah the adolescent quest for coolness. I remember those days.......

Kewl-In its use here originated on explosives related internet forums. It is a term used in a derogatory manner towards any moron who without any intellectual pursuit seeks to make explosives without any care for the science involved. They often mainly have a destructive purpose in mind. These are the type of people who blow up mailboxes with fireworks and so forth.

SWIM- I believe originated on the online drug boards. It is used by those with poor legal knowledge as a replacement for "I" They believe by saying something like "SWIM(Someone Who Isn't Me) made ___(insert drug here)" That they are not admitting the legal guilt that would come with saying something like "I made ______(insert drug here)". People using the term SWIM are to drug chemistry discussion are usually analagous to the mailbox bombers of explosives discussion. Drug chemistry for profit may be the goal of a SWIMer.

Please note: a kewl is not to be confused with "Cuil," the newly developed search engine. However, these words are pronounced the same and derived from the same root word: cool. It seems that being "cool" must be the most important thing in the universe. :(

Hey thanks for bringing up Cuil, Magpie, I went to see what it is, and It seems like a really good search engine, well, at least it has potential.
As you type in the word/phrases it guesses what you want!

This was interjected in an old thread on purifying acetone...

Not the greatest fan of profanity as a literary style but I thought Dr P's reply was accurate, succinct and gave me a genuine belly laugh.

Excuse my ignorance, but what does KEWL mean? Does it mean fucking dick head who is likely to blow himself up?
