Reaction of 1-Phenyl-2-chloropropane with methylamine?

sadafag - 8-11-2011 at 04:04

Does 1-Phenyl-2-chloropropane[http://www.chemindustry.com/chemicals/02145596.html]
could react with methylamine and give methamphetamine?
Is it even possible without fancy catalysts?

I believe so, however i'm not positive. Also the members on this board aren't fond of "people like you", no offense.

it is sterically hindered thus causing a bad yield.

Nevermind...

Maybe the better group would be bromide group, as it is better leaving group thus reaction yield will be higher?

And please explain these words: "it is sterically hindered thus causing a bad yield."
?

Those reactions will not work as written you cannot just mix those things together and expect to get the product, I am not sure of your level of chemistry knowledge...but if you think that the appendix you just linked is the answer you were looking for I would go research some more.
