An Imhoff cone is a cone-shaped container, used to measure the volume of settleable solids in a specific volume (usually 1 liter) of water or wastewater.
General
The Imhoff cone is a cone-like item, made of glass or plastic, marked with graduations. The plastic model is more often encountered, as it's less fragile and cheaper. At the tip of the cone there is a stopcock or a screwed lid. The Imhoff cone is held with the tip downwards, to allow he suspensions to settle, most often in a funnel holder.
