==Description==
A Fernbach flask is similar in appearance to a short [[Erlenmeyer flask]] with a cylindrical bottom, or a [[Petri dish]] with an inverted [[funnel]] glued on top. Typically, they are baffled on the bottom in order to maximize oxygen transfer to the culture medium. They are commonly made of plastic, like PE, PP, polycarbonate, PMP or other materials like borosilicate glass. Plastic flasks are disposable. Some Fernbach flasks have a screw and plastic lid with an air membrane, to allow air to enter the flask, but prevent contamination.
