Petition to ban DHMO

Penn and Teller have a petition circulated to ban that dangerous DHMO stuff, and get lots of signatures...

Great! Nasty stuff, that.

I hear fish do rude things in it.

It obviously drives them mad.

And it is found in abundance in that notorious date rape drug known as "beer".

The children! Think of the children!

Where can I sign in Bangkok?

Funny!

Last I checked, a 14 year old really made this one *good*. The state of Ca nearly banned plastic foam since DHMO was used in it's manufacture.

As much as I love this schtick (and I do) I certainly hope that Penn and Teller cite the original source for this material.

An with that:

A pollutant so ubiquitous as to have been found trapped in glacial ice...

Oh yes, check out:

Cheers,

They mostly do a magic act, I have mostly (always?) seen them on talk shows and stuff, where they do some skit.

They are hillarious, the tricks usually involve the quiet one (I forget which) getting horribly maimed while the other one does all the talking.

That was hysterical (in more ways than one)!
It is sad that people with good intentions are so careless about what they vote for. I will stay away from politics as this isn't whimsy but on both side of the isle we have some serious issues due to lack of investigation prior to commitment. unfortunately I would bet that the petition signatories thought the chemical concerned was something toxic and NO ONE WOULD JUST HAVE THEM SIGN BULLSHIT. That's how vote manipulation works....and it works damn well, doesn't it?

So, has anyone set up a support group for DHMO addictions?

Maybe we need one of these....

What would you call it and how would it work? DHMO is too freely available! That's the damn problem!

Try searching for aspartame rehab clinics...Same bogus science.

One shouldn't accept or resort to the mutilation of science to appease the mentally impaired.

Are you serious:o

Wow...if anything this leads more credence to that Dr (forgot his name) who believes addiction is just mental weakness.

http://www.sweetpoison.com/aspartame-detox.html

I stopped searching after that, although there's MUCH more, because such mindboggling twisting of science hurts my sweet disposition...well..you get the idea.

Of course I am joking as I have often gotten sick over the non-peer reviewed shit that passes for therapy in the USA. There is "treatment" for "sexual addiction" and similar "garbage science".
What happens is that the "treatment center" usually charges enormous amounts for an individual to re-hash his anxiety, thus a catharsis & insight, etc. He is then referred to a "12-step" program similar to the Alcoholic Anonymous model (a 1940's format of therapy to be used in the 21st century)...it would be laughable if it were not so abusive & unproductive. The USA has a long way to go in dealing with mental health issues.

You might be thinking of Dr. Stanton Peele, but he is not THAT simplistic in his viewpoint. He does think that much modern "treatment" for addiction is junk, doesn't work well, & is abusive.

Oh it was Szasz
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Szasz

"Psychiatry is a pseudo-science that parodies medicine by using medical sounding words invented over the last 100 years. To be clear, heart break and heart attack belong to two completely different categories. Psychiatrists are but "soul doctors", the successors of priests, who deal with the spiritual "problems in living" that have troubled people forever. Psychiatry, through various Mental Health Acts has become the secular state religion according to Thomas Szasz. It is a social control system, which disguises itself under the claims of scientificity"

But hey with 'mental illnesses' being used as criminal defences these days, and to legitimize any behavior we could get in on this.

'I have chemophobica rejecticus and scientificus enjoyica...thats why I choose to practice chemistry as a hobby. You can't discriminate against those with a 'mental illness'. The only treatment is for you to fund my lab till I get tired of it.:D

Hello, my name is Inidgofuzzy, and I have a problem.
I've been fighting a DHMO addiction for over 24 years, but I want to change.

Add a crippling addiction to 'fire air' and understand my pain.

(for the non-alchemically inclined 'fire air' was Scheele's origional name for oxygen)

Well, there is a drug, formonitrile, which apparently can cure DHMO addiction almost instantly with a 100% success rate. It was found to be highly effective in treatment facilities for DHMO addicts in Germany in the 1940s.

Never accept that which can be changed.

I think DHMO would be a Ca listed precursor along with CCl4. Have to sign and give reasons for buying it .. no bulk sales without a DEA #

Very cool. I'm mostly there myself except I believe that there are SOME neuro-psychiatric physicians who practice as psychiatrists who are not quacks.

Perhaps it's just as well, after all some things are best not widely discussed , but I have not seen any reference to another disturbing use of DHMO. I understand (though I'm not willing to divulge the sources of this information) that all successful biological weapons programs have included DMHO in the culture medium for anthrax.

Curse you DHMO , legislative action at last !

Oh so you think this is a joke do you.

That's it , I'm moving to Bora Bora.

When a legal product which is not even demonstrably harmful can be arbitrarily
banned by bureaucratic eco-terrorists it's time to move on.
