chlorine ingestion
I was at the pool today and I swallowed approximately 4-5 mouthfulls of the water. What is the typical concentration of chlorine to water? Should I
be concerned?

I would say not even 10ppm at the most. My own studies have shown that as little as 5ppm of active chlorine (aqueous species i.e. OCl-) is effective
to retard multiplication of Escherichia Coli.
Edit--I'd be more concerned about chlorinated organics in the water!

I'd be more concerned about the amount of urine in that pool water. People do some nasty things in the pool.

I would be more worried about other 'nasty' things.
Definatly no risk from the chlorine, not much chance of microbial problems. Just a gross out factor.

…this is a serious question?
If swallowing pool water in moderate doses was harmful, about 1/3 of the population (here, at least) would keel over every summer.

Cranium, your posts remind me so much of a certain Futurenobellaureate, an expert in trolling. Coincidence, I guess?

it would really depend on how big your mouth is!
there is always the possibilty of Sinking
4 or 5 mouthfull of Chlorox Bleach probably wouldn`t do you any favours after it hit the HCl stomach acid and you had a few greeish/yellow burps of
Chlorine, but even then I stongly doubt you`de even get the 1`st mouthful past your lips, and if you did it would unlikely Kill you. Swimming pool
concentrations.... ROFLOL Naah!

Is this the first time you have swallowed a few mouthfuls of pool water? What happened last time?
Do you think it's an unusual experience for the population as a whole?
Don't you think that the ambulance chasing lawyers would gave stopped the practice of chlorinating pools if it were this hazardous (even if the
government didn't)?
Did you actually think about this before you asked the question?

I believe that what I posted here is stupid. I would like to ask for someone to move it to detritus.

You could look up the local laws on chlorine concentrations in pools. If you calculate the amount you could drink before moderate discomfort you'll
probably find that the discomfort will be caused by the enormous amount of water rather than the chlorine
