synthesize (from N,N-dimethyl aniline)
I want to synthesize N,N-dimethyl-4-acetyl -aniline from N,N-dimethyl aniline.
But i did not get

You likely got acetylation of the nitrogen and one of the methyls got sucked off and became something else(methyl chloride?). What exactly did you
do? Standard type friedel crafts acylation?

In a three-necked round bottomed flask equipped with a thermometer and a dropping
funnel ,is dissolved one parts N,N-dimethyl aniline ,2.1 parts AlCl3 and some CH2Cl2.
then dropped 1.1 parts CH3COCl ,after 1 hour, the N,N-dimethyl aniline did not react by TLC
