Are you going to observe Comet ISON?

Comet ISON is currently in the LASCO C3 field of view and it's getting bright, fast. It could peak at anywhere between magnitude -3 and -7 with its current brightness trend.

Try helioviewer.org for SOHO/SDO/STEREO images. You can go way back in time with this viewer.

Check for comet updates here.

A light curve and sky chart are located here.

And of course, the official Comet ISON site.

Anyone in southern 'Straya know how and when to view the comet?

You'd have to wake up before sunrise and look to the northeast to see the comet. Find a flat horizon; that's the best thing you can do for your observations. Try here for more info. Unfortunately, ISON is a comet for the northern hemisphere, unlike the last two really good ones (McNaught and Lovejoy). Did you happen to catch either of them?

Alternatively, you could try this, but be very careful. The sun ain't forgiving.

It appears that in T-5 hours, rock in the comet will start vaporizing due to solar heat. This is going to be fun.

Local conditions and forecast: overcast, then partly cloudy. Damnit.

[edit] I'm putting anyone who answers "Sorry, not interested," on my naughty list. :P

Cloudy and raining for the rest of the winter...that's geographically challenged.

Latest LASCO C2 images suggest ISON has disintegrated. It started on a fading trend earlier today and it looks dead to me. All of its head has spread out, and SDO isn't showing anything.

Hopefully there's a visible tail tomorrow morning...

The NASA servers are swamped. It took me many times to finally roll a prioritized connection. For anyone interested, here are a couple very recent images from LASCO C2/C3. I'm working on editing the GIF animations for re-upload.

I'm so depressed that it died. I pray for some sort of show since me and my kids have been waiting months for this it would be a huge blow IMO to there future studies in science if ISON does not produce a show for my son who has been eagerly awaiting its appearance.

Because of the difficulty in loading anything from the NASA servers, I've uploaded recent copies to my own website. Enjoy.
