Why do compounds dissolve easier in methanol when it is saturated with KNO3 ??

Any insight would be appreciated. I assume it is to increase solubility but I could be wrong?? If not, why is it used in this extraction. I have no interest in preforming anything in the article, im just interested in the role KNO3 plays, and why it is effective. Thanks :)
