Productivity During the Downtime?
So, you had a day without the forum online, depriving you of time spent reporting spam, harassing noobs wishing to be spoonfed, and arguing
fruitlessly amongst yourselves in certain threads.
Did anyone get any chemistry done?
Well, aside from me. I ran my first grignard, which went smoothly. Video in the next few days for those who follow my youtube.

I had my first college lab! We wen't over the synthesis I'm doing next week, tris(acytlacetoto)iron(III). I'm pretty excited for it even though its
strait forward. My professors are all awesome, and I'm learning a lot of things I kinda knew and were exposed to, but now fully understand.
I also learned I'm not allowed to film or take pictures in the university lab
In lecture were talking about lasers and particle/wave duality. fun fun.
Glad to hear the grignard went well UC! Looking forward to watching it.

I finally got my Hydrazine sulfate synthesis to work out, I never had enough yield to get the di(methylethyl)azine to separate, but I extracted with
xylol and got more yield than I needed. Great, but I feel stupid for not thinking of this before. I got advise to use toluene, but I didn't have
any--though it sparked the xylol idea. Almost done with the luminol synthesis, I should finish it today!

Nice going! I'm curious as to how you dried your ether?

I let it sit for 24 hours over sodium, then distilled it from some fresh sodium. I recently invested in a half kilo of it and am quite pleased with my
purchase.

I prepared some nutrient agar petri dishes, and then inoculated them with fungi spores. I just got an incubator the other day, so hopefully all goes
well! (although I am very worried about contamination)

Interestingly enough, I put almost all my chemistry on hold. I did try condensing some SO2 one night, when the temperature outside dropped below -15
centigrade.
Ultimate failure, maybe I'll try it again later.
I'm trying to prepare sodium thiocyanate for a demo, but have been unsuccessful thus far.
