Bromine production from BCDMH
I have seen a number of threads regarding the production of bromine from pool chemicals.
Has anyone tried the reduction of 1-bromo 3-chloro 5,5 dimethylhydantoin
(BCDMH) in aqueous soln by sodium metabisulfite ?
This came from "Small scale synthesis of lab reagents with reaction modelling" by Lerner, L. 2011 CRC Press.
Btw, if anyone would find this reference useful and assuming it hasn't already been added to the library, I could up it somewhere.

You might want to use a milder reducing agent.
Essentially, BCDMH partially hydrolyses in water to hypochlorous and hypobromous acid, HOBr, especially in the presence of an acid.
