Cody's lab: 50lbs Al cans to thermite: pool of liquid Al2O3

https://youtu.be/N9rGAA6eF10

Really funny, he crushed 400 soft drink cans and a small part of it he converts to mid fine Al powder and mixes it with Fe3O4. He puts the thermite mixture (10lbs) on top of a pile of crushed cans and all the crushed cans take part of the reaction and at 17:30 you can see a pool of liquid Al2O3 (and some aluminum). After cooling overnight he gets a chunk of impure iron under the (now frozen) Al2O3 slag.

Cool video. It’s really interesting how the particle size scales up. There’s probably no limit to the particle size, as long as the reacting mass is large enough.
