Fake molybdenum 99.999% on Ebay - Warning!

I received a report that this Chinese seller: https://www.ebay.com/itm/303692834180 is offering fake molybdenum in high purity 99.999%! In fact, it is chromium metal, not molybdenum! I am attaching a photo of the x-ray spectrometer.

Did you report this at eBay as being fake?

Could this be a mistake rather than fraud? This is a prolific seller. I've bought from them myself. When I encounter fake items on ebay I start by notifying the seller and see if they take the problem seriously and at least pull the ad before trying to get ebay involved. Maybe the seller was defrauded also. And I'm sorry to say that ebay hasn't always been very responsive when I have reported fraud, often preferring to delete my negative feedback and that of others and let the fraud go unchecked.

Yes, it is possible that this seller is honest and was himself cheated by his supplier, as I was repeatedly told it happens in China unfortunately commonly...Cheated was my friend who is a professional seller of chemical elements in our country, he bought this "molybdenum" in amount 200 grams. He wrote to me that I operate here on the Forum, so let warn others. I don't know if he alerted the seller or Ebay, I have to ask him, he has dealt with Ebay in the past, but he has had bad experiences with them, he has been denounced by other sellers for selling dangerous goods and those who denounced him have sold the same goods themselves and that is why he no longer sells anything on Ebay...

My friend wrote to me that the seller first claimed he didn't understand English and when this ploy didn't work, he offered him a ridiculous amount as compensation and told him he could keep the goods and forget the whole thing...

ebay is selling gold powder described as 100 Grams High Purity Gold Powder - 100g - Above R 99.9% Pure Gold for the great price of only £12.55 WOW.

In the detailed description is described as metallic silver superfine powder, purity 99.99%.If its only gold plated silver (which I doubt) its a good price.
See: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/393919544928?_trkparms=amclksrc%3...

I have also seen sales of tungsten wire described as made from steel !!!

Could they be translation problems?
For the first one, it probably should say "golden powder" from your description ;)
The second one... Mhh, tungsten steel maybe ?

I recently bought some calcium from china on ebay, and some vanadium from the US on ebay. The vanadium was awesome, but the calcium which came in a glass tube filled with inert gas was nothing like describes. it looked nice nice shiny small granules in the description, but what I got was mostly dirty powder.

The seller, https://www.ebay.com/usr/yaolihong2013, kept stalling and eventually ebay refunded me. The item is now removed.

They scammed me for 250$ or so in Ir powder some time back.

I was ripped by chinese seller on ebay, 230$ for 20g Ir that turned out to be W... no recourse available since XRF test wasn't done for almost a year. they simply told me it wasn't their product, some one changed it out and it was my problem to sort out. still pretty chapped about that one... yaolihong2013 aka tianmao (ebay store)"
