Dont ask for a source but ive read that it can be stored in the freezer for about a year before it begins to die. For cultivation the sclerotium is
normally frozen to simulate winter conditions so that when it thaws, the fungi is tricked into thinking its spring and begins to sprout its stipes
which then go on to release the spores.
Sufficiently advanced science is indistinguishable from madness.
