im stupid for spending a lot of my money from pizza delivery job on home chemistry hobby ?
do u guys think im stupid for spending a lot of my money from pizza delivery job on home chemistry hobby ? or should i be saving ALL of it?
i dont have to have a job, my father pays all the bils and tuition comes from inheritance. i only got a job for this hobby.
i just spend $32 on 500 mL of propionaldehyde
i have alot of free time, the pizza delivery job isnt cutting into studies.
most college studies have alot of free time and spend it on partying, booze, video games, etc
well i spend the partying time on this instead

A lot of hobbies more expensive then home chemistry.
Maybe you should take up brewing beer, wine or liqueur and sell it too people partying in college if that's what they all spend there money on.
If anyone would be good at brewing alcohol beverages its someone into home chemistry.

= no, it seems to be 'spare' money that you worked for so enjoy it.
... or should i be saving ALL of it?
=no, you should invest it wisely ... i.e. sex, drugs and concerts.
... well i spend the partying time on this instead
= ok, but Uni is a time for socialising, and some learning[/rquote]

i get enough of the sacred "socializing" from just being in undergraduate research.
i logically view activities from how much pleasure you get out of them, or if they will lead to future pleasure.
for example, i find it pleasurable to "socialize" with fellow chemists, because we exchange information that leads to performing chemistry that is
pleasurable due to satisfaction of curiosity.
we also know what to talk about, because we both understand the same interest.
but how can humans "socialize" when they don't share interests? i dont understand things like "partying" or "social clubs".
but i struggle to see purpose in random "socializing", or talking to a human for no reason in parties, social clubs, bars, etc.

It's your money.
You are entitled to spend it as you see fit (within the local laws).
When you finish studying and look for a career, the fact that you held down a pizza delivery job will look good to potential employers.
If the enjoyment you get from chemistry motivates you to keep the job, that's a good thing.

Dont spend it all, have you seen Futurama ?
Given your job and your hobby you stand a better chance than the character to get frozen and wake in a few centuries.
Then you'll be filthy rich
Joke aside, there are a lot of things to do when you have a little bit of money on the side.
Inviting someone to the restaurant, changing furniture. Be a bit "bourgeois" !

okay. what are you studying? if chemistry, you don't have a hobby it's called research.got lot of time ? read, exercise ,meditate and sleep.i do
suggest spending money on tools and equipments .somethings easy to DIY like a hot plate stirrer, thermometer, a lab jack ect. since you got time.

Stupidest thing you've done so far is ask us whether we think your stupid for spending $$$ on the same hobby we all spend $$$ on.

Run with it brother, if you have no expenses and your father is fine paying the bill, build your collection while you can, but also try saving some
money, put say 50% aside for savings and the other 50% aside for fun. I don't know what your monthly income is but its probably at least equal to the
500$ I get from student loan and I have been spending some of that on chem stuff. Its still a good idea to save some for the future though. I myself
am looking for a job so I can afford more chemistry stuff too, both equipment and reagents.

I wish my college left more time for fun, the course I am taking is a 4 year course they crammed into 2 years. we have lab 3 days in a row along with
lecture and homework. we don't get enough time to do write-ups for today's lab because we have to plan for tomorrows lab and lecture and homework,
every student falls behind and half the class has dropped it because its too intense. They also cut 15hrs from every class this year so instructors
are cramming 15 more hrs into lecture and have fallen behind, we are now doing labs for stuff we haven't learned in class, I understand but many
people don't. Last semester we had a BioTech teaching us all our classes except Stats and O-Chem, we had to correct his work in Lab Math all the time,
he took way too long teaching because he was rusty with anything to do with chem and he was teaching us Gen Chem 1 and Analytical Chem 1, as a bio
tech instructor he didn't teach the bio techs any of the chem just bio. He fell behind and we didn't get through the full curriculum in many classes
before semester end and we had to enter the exams without proper training. They also made us take O-Chem at the same time as Gen/Analytical chem so
our O-chem instructor had to teach us how to do all sorts of techniques we should have already learned in Gem/Analytical chem. Its a real gong show
lol.
