H202?

Hey guys,

Lots of good info and synths on this site i must say, anyways.

Is it possible to increase the concentration of H202 (3%) up to a higher level by boiling/distilling?

Im simply looking to synth some HMTD and i understand the risks involved ( i have looked at previous topics on peroxide compounds)

But any help with the subject would be greatly apreciate as my resources are limited where i am currently situated.

Thanks everyone :)

Please try the forum search function, as this has been discussed previously.

bfesser is correct, you should try the search function but since I already found it, here you go: H2O2 concentration?

@boostedbastard,

Too many experienced pyros ripped off their fingers with HMTD, and you are not smarter than them. Many of them were actually licensed miners.

You want to have fun or make a bang? Have you ever tried copper oxide/aluminum. Man, that thing makes an ton of noise, produces a beautiful brown cloud, and leaves a purple stain that never washes off. It is as powerful as flash powder, but also melts things!

Give that a try before jumping into HE. Cool? ;)

PUT THAT HMTD DOWN!

You're not helping. Here we have a young boy who doesn't know what he's getting himself into.

I'd rather him make MHN vs. HMTD any day of the week. Plus, MHN could be set off by amateur means.

But yeah, delete this thread.

Who said I was helping? I hate bombs.

Yeah, not trying to bash anyone, but bombs are one of the stupidiest things to do in an amateur lab.
Unfortunely, they're the most tried experiment by inexperienced chemists.
Too make things worse, the easiest explosives to synthetize are also the most sensitive ones, organic peroxides.

Several people have even gone to the trouble of writing short paragraphs on HOW to use the search function (Forum matters, etc).

Since I'm not egotistical like the individuals who will write up a paragraph on why you should UTFSE, when the same elapsed time could have been utilized to type something useful, I'll offer some help.

Concentrating 3% H2O2 by boiling does work, though you will lose some Peroxide to thermal decomposition. In my experience, boiling a liter of 3% solution down to 100mL produces 20-25% H2O2. Thermal decomposition accelerates as concentration increases, so you'll be hard pressed to obtain >30% through boiling.

Evaporation at lower temperatures is more effective, though much slower.

As mentioned before, this has been discussed previously. Continue discussion in the according thread, which is probably not necessary because the answer is in there.
