Ethanol production and purifycation
I want to make ethanol from table sugar, water and yeast through fermentation. Obviously I would get a mixture of water and ethanol ranging from
5%-20% of ethanol in water. (I would use beaker's yeast) After the fermentation is done, can I actually filter the product of the fermentation and
freeze the filtrate under 0°C to separate the ethanol(l) from water(s)? If everything would go right, I would have ethanol azeotrope (95%). Can I put
some silica gel to the ethanol azeotrope to extract water from it and to purify it to like 100%? Of course, I would filter it again to separate
moistened silica gel from ethanol. Would this actually work? I would do this just for scientific purposes. Thanks for answers.
