Diaphragm cell for Perchlorate
Hello,
Thought I should break this out into a new thread. It's off topic in 'Multilayer Metal Oxide / Titanium Anodes for Chlorate/Perchlorate'.
For newcomers the discussion is based on US Pat 1,279,593 which is attached (again).
I made an attempt at starting a cell using a diaphragm made from dried fire clay (from the hardware store). This diaphragm had been made months ago
when I was thinking about making a Chlorine cell. It was sitting in the rubbish (thats garbage BTW ) heap.
It took 25 volts to drive an amp through the cell. The anode was a gouging rod. Cathode was the outside container. Lots of electrode area. I stopped
it soon after as I reckoned I will have to come up with a better diaphragm. I used NaCl btw just to see what current would flow.
Would cloth wound around (a few times) a piece of drilled (lots of holes) plastic pipe do I wonder?
The flower pot I have not tried. It's the next candidate.
