in this thread we are not discussing endothermic compounds in general. for instance, azides are also endothermic compounds. What we really want is a solid capable of offering large amount of energy in short time and this only by changing it's crystal form (transition from one polymorph to another).

Well, but heat, generated when diamond transforms to graphite, is relatively small. I do not think, that it is a real way to significantly increase performance.
