I think OldNubbins has it dead right.
Stick to thanking them for the opportunity, politely ask for feedback as to why you were not selected, and ask to be considered next time a position opens up.

Frankly, if a potential intern sent me that letter I would be even more reluctant to hire you. It comes across as cocky and presumptuous ( as has been said), neither of which I would consider desirable in an intern. Remember you may have been second choice, or there may have been many more candidates ranked ahead of you.

Be polite, and a little humble.
