Acetone vs acetic acid solvent kinetics

A reaction suggests that acetone or acetic acid could be used but favors the acid in all examples.

Are there any major differences between the two, apart from bp and acidity? Is there a benefit over acid? Vapor pressure is much higher, but the reaction benefits from low temps so acetone could be even better due to GAA freezing quickly.

I would prefer acetone because its cheaper, more otc and much easier to separate from reactants.
