DCM shrinks genuine coke bottle.
This was a 1.25l coke bottle last night and today it's about 1/2 that size.see how the label is hanging loosely around the middle.the threads are
getting all frosty looking and the bottom is starting to bubble out like a rbf.this is only the second thing that I've found that messes with coke
bottles not some flimsy cheap soda brand genuine coke bottles.drain cleaner h2so4 is the other thing.usually I've found them to be pretty solid.
It's only 50ml DCM so in the bin it goes.

Yea, I have no photos, but it makes PET stretchy and soft, but strong enough to hold bottles form.

Yeah, DCM is pretty brutal to most plastics, as is Xylene and Toluene IME.

Coke bottles are fine with toluene xylene or ethylacetate.

DCM attacks most plastics, glass is always the best in this case. i don't know how you thought that PET would survive dcm.
at least it didn't just melt a hole in the bottom

You just need HDPE jugs for stuff like that, it holds most solvents if not all.

HDPE is not good enough. I had a liter escape the bottle that was still inside the bag...
Someone here called DCM an escape artist. I cant imagine a more accurate description.

I have a half full 5l plastic canister of DCM, I received it that way already.
Should I better transfer the stuff to glass bottles?
I have some 2,5l amber glass bottles I could use for that.

@Karlos: I most definitely would.
What I have is in a metal can and a glass bottle.

I'd watch the caps, though. What are they made from?

I don't know, I received it wrapped in cling film and I haven't removed it so far.
The cap is unmarked as well.
I just kept the cling film wrap, as I thought it would be a good indicator if something unwanted happens.
The canister kept very well for a half year now though.

Ah, what I meant is what are the caps made from on your glass amber storage bottles?

Oh, those are old bottles I emptied, one contained MTBE, the other Et2O, but I don't have them at hand right now to look, but I suppose they are
pretty much chemical resistant and could take on the DCM as well.

I usually get glass bottles with a ptfe liner. I don't know what the cap is made off.

I've found that the best bottles for waste, solvents or otherwise, are 1-gal glass jugs. My source is empty table wine bottles but I am sure there
are other sources, although they are probably not acquired so enjoyably.

I found that 35% H2O2 does similar to PET but it takes longer. I used a ketchup bottle as a temporary bottle and left about 100ml in it and weeks
later it had delaminated and the inner bottle had shrunk to 100ml in size & pressurized the liquid. It's strange how it seems there are like 8
layers of plastic in those bottles.
