vacuuming not possible, doesn't work ... : Soot adheres to well to the surface ... ; but some parts of the painting would be destroyed by the suction,
because they are too loose ... ...

This may sound a bit off-the-wall, but the melamine pads they sell in supermarkets are very efficient at removing carbon gently.
They are called "Magic Erasers" (or something like that).
If you buy the Chinese versions on eBay, they are very flimsy. Maybe that's a good thing in this case?
