Lose the watering can, forget about hydroponics and aeroponics, the future of cannabis production is here?.
This biotech company, based in Ireland, is gearing up to produce the compounds found in cannabis using GM yeast cultures.

Isn't that illegal? Is the THC the controlled substance or is it the actual Cannabis plant?

Info on the company is a bit thin on the ground(!) but I understand that any or all of the active cannabinoids may be produced in this way!
The THC-producing gene in cannabis, e.g. should when incorporated in yeast produce the compound more efficiently than the plant itself!

It's an interesting idea for sure, but I'm not sure I can see it catching on. I don't see how one could smoke this product without a lot of
processing, so it would probably have to be ingested (hash browns anyone?). Therefore the market for this product would be quite limited.

No, I have friends in Cali that grow "medical" (yeah , RIGHT, it's medical. No, really. Pass the potato chips) weed. I saw buds last week the size
of rolling pins.

This yeast process would be a boon to illegal produces. No more lights and high power bills to give them away. So what if there are no leaves, wax and
oil are the rage these days. However since pot is a complex mix of 20 or more cannaboids, it may take a while to get it right.
Personally I think the main reason pot remains illegal is the booze makers and big pharma don't want the competition. Plus the plant is so easy to
grow it would be difficult to tax production.
Nature and 1000s of years of breeding have produced the nearly perfect drug for pain and stress relief. Plus it reduces inflammation with fewer side
effects than NSAIDs or steroids. I think ultimately the best market for the stuff will be senior citizens.

It does seem rather Sad that GM is employed just to get around a Law.
I bet that the Plant looks better than a bowl of sludgy goop.

Not exactly on topic but there was a report on the national news today that in the states that have legalized medical marijuana, there has been a drop
in the overall deaths from prescription drugs. People are wising up an medicating herbally instead of taking the crap the pharmaceutical industry is
passing out these days. At least you can't fatally OD on it unless you have an allergy to it. Then you wouldn't be smoking or ingesting it anyway.

According to some reports, the incidence of crime is down overall, in those states and fewer people there are drunk-driving?
