Shelf live of resorcinol

Hi,

i've got an offer for resorcinol, but it seems to be very old stuff.

Question:
Does this stuff degrade over time?
Most data sheets I read say something between 12 months to 3 years if stored dark and airtight.

Are these values overcautious?
Most plastic bottles are not really airtight.

Do you have an opinion on that?

I have some resorcinol that must be at least 30 years old in a glass jars capped by a bakelite cap with those waxed paper cap liners and it is almost pure white with a little greying of the compound but not much.

So I would say it can last a long time.

Do you think that the stuff you buy from Sigma or any other supplier is less than 12 months, I doubt it. By in all fairness, if you need 99.999% purity you should probably get it as fresh as possible....

Thank you for your opinion. No, I don't need it superpure.
I'll try it and see how it looks...
