Hazmat Shipping

Just out of curiosity, what does UPS hazmat shipping look like? I've never ordered anything requiring it, but I often come across products that say "this item will have a $25 hazmat shipping fee from UPS." If I bought an item with that shipping, I assume there would be specific markings on the box to identify the chemicals contained inside?

When I used to have to ship hazmat materials I always just tossed the bottle into a poison pack which is what a lot of shippers do. It's a good catch-all.

For Canada:
They seem to only be good for use in the USA.
Transport Canada do not have them as a shipping package option.
Have even asked UPS Canada, and they can't figure out if they can be used.

My worked is setup to ship anything that UPS Canada will except. It took over 8 months to have hazmat setup. :o

There are still hazmat fees in Canada, also your account needs to be approved for hazmat shipping.

If the chemical has a limited Quantity amount listed on the transport Canada Schedule, then there is no hazmat fee.
Just mark the box as Ltd. Qty. and that is it.

Ok, so for exemple I want to ship potassium chlorate by UPS. I go you the site of Transport Canada and they tell me that the maximum that can be ship is 1KG without any special permition. They only tell me what I need to write on the custom.

That make me think about 3 things.

Firstly, can I ship a package to U.S. whit those same rule?

Secondly, can I ship like 4 box of 1Kg each to the same place without any need of hazmat fee?

Thirdly, if I want to make a small trip to US and I want to buy some chemical there, can I pass the line without any problem if I don't have more that the amount permit in a car?

And also, do I need to be aprouved for dangerous good shipping if I don't pass over the amount limit? If yes, how can I be aprouved.

Thanks a lot

RE: Bikemaster

1) Firstly, can I ship a package to U.S. whit those same rule?
Yes, it would ship using the Transport Canada rules.
>> My work does this all the time.
Can't be done by Canada Post though.

2)Secondly, can I ship like 4 box of 1Kg each to the same place without any need of hazmat fee?
Yes, it can also mean that you can ship 4 1Kg lots in the same box if it does not go over the total limits.

3) Thirdly, if I want to make a small trip to US and I want to buy some chemical there, can I pass the line without any problem if I don't have more that the amount permit in a car?

Not sure on this. You would still have to declare it at customs. If you have an Import/Export Number, you can broker it yourself.

4) And also, do I need to be approved for dangerous good shipping if I don't pass over the amount limit? If yes, how can I be approved

No, you just ship as LTD. QTY.

Thanks a lot undead_alchemist!

For the point about passing the border with chemical, I thinks I don't really need an import/export number because I don't own any company and I don't need to pass big quantity of product. I don't know what will be the reaction of the border guard, but I don't think that it will be a probleme to pass some chemical.
