Quote: | I dont know how well sulfonic acids can be removed with H2SO4 though. have you ever tried doing it? |
Depending on the substitutes and structure conditions range from 50% AcOH to 80% H2SO4 under pressure at 200 C. One method that works well when the
hydrolysis product is reasonable volatile in steam is to pass steam through the sulfonic acid in H2SO4+H2O (25 to 75% acid) or H3PO4+H2O in the 100
to 140 C range. The distillation of the product forces the reaction, passing steam through both replaces water taken up by the hydrolysis and helps
carry off the product. H3PO4 is less effective than H2SO4 but is also otherwise less reactive to the product while H2SO4 can function as an oxidising
agent.

2-methyl-3-nitroaniline
89 USD/100 g Aldrich (and probably Hazmat, a deal killer across Pacific)
Same price Acros, no hazmat
$60 landed and inside customs from China
$2100/20 Kg FOB China port. But I do not need 20 Kg.
Note that $90 ex works EU means $180 by time it gets here.
So I can buy a Kg from China for 1/3 price from Belgium. Claimed purity 99%. We will see.
The Chinese manufacture this as an intermediate for the disperse dyes.
Buying from China is always a bit of an adventure but I reckon this is worth the gamble even if I have to purify.
Sic gorgeamus a los subjectatus nunc.
