Which Linux versions allow one to run windows programs? I want to change over but the transition will require windows crossover.

Use a virtual machine (e.g. VMWare) and install Windows on a virtual machine. VMWare is available, both for Windows and Linux. You can also go the other way around and install VMWare on Windows and run Linux in a virtual box. I have done the latter and it works great. I use VMWare 5.5.3.
