even a near invisible speck will give a noticeable detonation,
maybe airborne?
e.g. sprinkle a little talcum powder in the air along the route that you took and watch carefully to see if any heads that direction.

I thought that my chemistry hygene was acceptable until I used silver nitrate or potassium permanganate .....
where did those stains come from?

that should be a strong warning to anyone attempting to manufacture posionous chemicals (and i am not talking about lead nitrate ...) a tiny amount of mercury dimethyl or other highly toxic compound could be spreading arround the lab, house, clothes, hair etc...
