cold detonation

Hello

Is there someone who could explain the process behind what is being described here: http://www.newmaterials.com/News_Detail_Cold_detonation_phys...

How are they getting CO2 to detonate? It would be neat to get it to detonate, it would be extremely oxygen rich!

Actually, CO2 is extremely oxygen neutral:D

I think the more interesting point being the production of nano-diamond material.

"Because the carbon dioxide used in the present invention's formulations in a preferred embodiment is in its solid state at atmospheric pressure, which also happens to exist at a temperature of -78.5 0C as dry ice, the field of study of said formulations has been named "Cold Detonation Physics", or CDP."

If that carbon is being turned into nano-diamonds, all of that O2 is released and available for other reactions.

Right , the carbon is being reduced. They don't specify the " other ingredients "
but something like Magnesium can explode with Carbon Dioxide if subjected to
a booster shock. It would behave more as a thermite otherwise. I suspect
Carbon Tetrachloride is included in the slurry to sensitize the reaction. This
' process 'however academically curious will not ever see production scale.
