m-phenoxybenzaldehyde


Hi,
m-phenoxybenzaldehyde seems to be oxidized to m-phenoxybenzoic acid by dissolved oxygen thus acidity goes beyond the prescribed limit i.e. 0.3%. I think that an antioxidant must be added. I tried hydroquinone, though it worked but color of product become pale which is not desirable.
Will anybody suggest a better antioxidant?
BHT, TBHQ or anything else?
Please comment.

That sounds like an industrial setting.

Use degassed solvents and store over nitrogen. No oxygen = no oxidation. If still oxidizing, consider that the Cannizzaro reaction may be occurring.

I'll want a free sample, just a few grams, for helping you out.

Vkcmzn, we do not encourage the abuse of this forum from the non-amateur chemists, particularly if they give nothing in return. You seem to be after optimising storage of your industrial product to meet the required specifications, which is a totally profit related problem and has nothing to do with amateur chemistry at all. You are paid to find the solution, so it would be unfair from us to help you (unless of course you give something back, like helpful replies to others or a forum donation).
