If you want Dow vacuum grease there's almost always someone on eBay selling it new in the tube for 1/2 to 1/3 what a supplier would charge you. As far as I know it doesn't have a shelf life. The tube I bought was several years old and it works just fine.

DMSO is not a good solvent for silicone grease im my experience, but hexane, DCM, and even WD40 should all work well.
