Video: "Volcano Experiment" with Ammonium dichromate

I tried to enhance both Chemistry and filming techniques in this video, see if there is any different, comments and suggestions.

One of the better videos on chemistry. Sharp images, no shaking. Very good! Minor point of criticism is that you move between the camera and the mortar two times. It is not really disturbing, but next time don't do that.

One point about the chemistry itself. The reaction equation is correct, but it is not the whole story. Quite some hexavalent chromium remains unreacted. Take some of the green oxide and put that in water. A yellow liquid will leach out of the material, which is mainly chromate and dichromate. For this reason, the fine green material still is very toxic when inhaled. When the green Cr2O3 is rinsed well with water, until no more yellow liquid is obtained, then it is not toxic anymore. This Cr2O3 is interesting on its own, it is a catalytically very active form of Cr2O3.

A nice suggestion for another video is to take some concentrated ammonia, shake this in a bottle with air and then bring a spoon full of hot Cr2O3 from the volcano reaction in the bottle. The fluffy stuff will become red hot and fly around in the bottle, the heat being from the exothermic reaction of ammonia with oxygen.

A little vibration in the camera at 1:20 (I guess you were handling it for the zoom button?), but otherwise quite nice, yes.
