Urtica
Does anybody know what is in this plant?
I want to know about anything medicinal that is specific to this plant and that is unlikely to be found in other products.

Do you mean Urtica dioica, the plant called the stinging nettle in English?
If so here is its phytochemistry: http://sun.ars-grin.gov:8080/npgspub/xsql/duke/plantdisp.xsq...
...and here is other data with scientific references: http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/taxon.pl?40944

scientific temper, not in the scientific defense of the theory. - Weston La Barre (Ghost Dance, 1972)

"i was sorta hoping to find some sort of key compound accounting for any medicinal properties. "
end quote.
You know, people get $1,000,000+ checks (big grants) for that sort of thing...
If you are not willing to perform an exhaustive literature search and fractionate (and characterize each component) tons of stinging plants, then you
should be happy with what you can get.

That phytochemical database is interconnected by subjects. If you click on a chemical component it shows the activities claimed by researchers
together with the reference. You can also make the output to list other categories. Learn how to use it and you can collect all the references for the
data you look for.

Oh yes, and thanks to Nicodem for the cool links. I really wish I had seen those before I got into my grad work. I could have saved soooo much time
with the literature survey.
Cheers,
