my birthday present

Glaudge - 30-11-2007 at 18:46

ok, ve been a chem nerd for a long time, but it wasent till this last birthday, my 15th, that i get a real lab glassware set (the big one at top on united nuke's website.) right now, ive been dissolving 50/50 sugar kno3(volume, dont have accurate scale, yet and going to re crystallize the mix and see if i get better burn than just mixed sugar (granulated sucrose) and spectrazide stump remover. after crystalization, im going to crush those up as much as i can (no mill, yet) and ignite.

i will do more in future (mabye even a dmt extraction from the mimosa "weed" trees that invade our land, hehehe)

but anyway, i'm out of crap to do. suggest some crap that i can do with household crap and stuff.

i have a little kno3 and kmno4 on hand, but they (especial the permang.) are expensive high demand item(s).

also have small amount of finely ground charcoal and sulfur flower from pharmacy.

have some glycerine also, but already tried the glycerine/permang. experiment.

(my b day was nov 23)

Honestly there are a number of threads around here already asking for suggestions for experiments to preform, either for the newbie or for someone with a little more experience. A biggie that might help you out on this thread would be to edit your post and re-name it, people read these posts based on the title after all and although you get to the reason behind your eagerness to get more into chemistry, it isn't all that informative as to what you hope to accomplish by the thread.

Although you mention that you have some new glassware I don't see which direction you want to go with that, your chemicals seem to be more specialized towards pyro and the like though they are valuable chemical reagents in their own regard.

It wouldn't surprise me if you got a few responses to use the search engine, and I would recommend the same. The search engine though for the site does not work that well, so I would suggest you use google and just limit your results to sciencemadness.

The usual line of questioning though would be, what are you interested in? What kinds of experiments and results do you hope to attain? There is a lot of information around here for the beginner but in order to help you we need some more direction and you just need to either dig around for the relevant threads or wait for a patient member (getting rarer and rarer) to help you out.

Best of luck regardless and happy belated birthday.

Happy Birthday to you!

This is priceless:

...i'm out of crap to do. suggest some crap that i can do with household crap and stuff.

Is this like painting "people and fruit, and shit"*?

Cheers,

O3

Oh, were those threads not of any help then?

I think that maybe some of our members here could get together and do a summary of those threads and put it in members publications so that in the future we can just point to that document in order to expedite the process.

Oh my god! This is appalling!

Is it no wonder the USA came 29th in the OECD PISA science tests for 15 year olds!

Make sure you read the comments!

Start a new thread once you have read them, if you have something to discuss.
People have been very nice despite your insistence on being spoonfed.
