Venturi Vacuum Aspirator Thing

aga - 15-4-2018 at 07:19

Although i have a vac pump, there is a project where i need to suck a ton of water out of a solution, which wouldn't be much good for the pump.

So, today i turned a venturii thing out of some recycled aluminium round stock, the idea being that water vapour will be blown out of the system as it is generated, at a lower temperature than 100 C of course due to the reduced pressure.

It did not work to begin with as the position of the vacuum inlet has to be just at the point where the inner small diameter pipe widens out, on the downstream side, as shown on this web-page: https://www.globalspec.com/learnmore/manufacturing_process_e...

The blue inlet profile was made to fit an air compressor's hose connector.

Not sure how much vacuum it develops, but it certainly sucks ;)

Looks cool.
What are you using as a gasket? My aspirator broke recently at the gasket on the take-off and no matter how many replacements i did i couldn't get the damn thing to seal. I suspects that's the weakest link in terms of aspirators.
I just caved and bought a diaphragm pump instead of trying to replace it again.

The body and the vacuum connector were threaded, so i just used PTFE tape - same stuff used in plumbing.

Edit:

I suppose 'threadlock' glue would work too.

you just saved at least 10$ and a month of waiting for shipment. GG
i want a lathe :(

The mini-lathe took about 6 weeks to get here !

Got to say tho, it's a great tool to have.

(grammar correction: 10$ is written as "$10" OR "ten dollars" for no sensible reason, seeing as it is always spoken as "ten dollars")

Edit:

I couldn't find a venturi vacuum thing on ebay that easily fitted my compressor.

What is the nozzle diameter?
