I bid a fond farewell to my final year chemistry students yesterday, and I wrote a few verses for some of their shirts. They were the most excellent
group I can remember, really tackling the subject wholeheartedly. I hope you enjoy the verse- I can't think of anywhere else to keep them on record.
Oleum, Oh Liam is too feisty for water,
It is diluted in H2-sulfate.
May your concentration applied to lifes' challenges,
In a like way make them dissipate.
From the depths of the organics lab,
Came a smell to put you on the slab.
Never mind dear Grommit, 'tis not baby vomit,
Taylors butyric has your throat in a grab!
Praneetha was making an ester,
In a prac lab designed to test her!
My beauty rates highly,
She said slightly wryly,
Before the butyrate fumes they did best her!
pH, Kw and E-nought
Conspired to make Chemistry fraught.
Cryptic and cruel, poor students they fool,
Except for AJ, who studied and thought!
Cheers,
H.
