Chronic Bromophobia

It seems that you have a deep rooted fear of toxic, corrosive, choking volatile substances,
... that's good.
I suspect that nightmares are a part of us, just the subject varies.

As you get more knowledge and practical experience those dreams will become more painfully practical.
Never had nightmares but had painfully tedious dreams of building various lab gear, even down to design them in my dreams! Very annoying to wake up
and realize all that work was a damned dream!
I'd have a full on chemical factory if not for that!

I've had dreams about messing up reactions at work. Not in spectacular or disastrous ways, but it's still stressful and frustrating.

When I was starting to read, probably first grade, I had a copy ofGreg's Microscope, which I'd read over and over. I very clearly remember having a nightmare in which Greg and I had set up a chemistry lab, but we
had an accident of some sort which started a chemical fire. We dealt with this by gathering it up and locking it in a box. (wtf)
I was a nerd from the get-go, apparently.

When I was in college I used to have nightmares about chemicals centered around bromine specifically.
These days I sometimes find myself having difficulty sleeping when I think about a reaction, but generally, that's before I do the reaction.

I just had a dream where I was doing a demo for my class- the standard elephant's toothpaste demo, except instead of adding potassium iodide to soapy
hydrogen peroxide, I was adding soap to piranha bath. Weird.

Although I haven't done enough reactions to have personal experience, I've learned a lot here.
The more I learn, the more I realize how dangerous these reactions are, And how unforgiving they can be.
One mistake and it can cost you your life, and the lives of those around you.
It is not my intent to be a profit of doom. I'm simply stating what I have learned so far.
Don't let fear rule your life, but do let it make you aware that safety is paramount.
Respect is a healthy mixture of fear and admiration.
FWIW.
Chemistry "dreams"
fusso - 28-11-2018 at 07:52
I mean, the dreams made while asleep, not those made while awake.
A recent dream I made is very short, and is about receiving ~4L volume of batteries, which contains some Li-ions and some cylindricals. But it's quite
some time ago so don't quite remember the varieties.
Have you experienced any chemistry "dreams"?

I have designed experiments in my sleep and then woken up and realized they could never work. While i can not remember what experiments it was anymore
it may be for the best.

I remember a dream in the last year of primary school, in which I made magnesium metal by electrolysis of a magnesium sulphate solutions. I can still
see in my mind the beautiful shiny pieces of magnesium I made in my dream.
Over the months before, I had been trying to obtain magnesium by electrolysis of solutions of magnesium salts, which ofcourse never worked.

Direct from a dream interpretation site (https://www.verywellmind.com/understanding-your-dreams-27959...), the closest match is #6 'Dreams About Taking a Test'
"According to Craig Hamilton-Parker, author of The Hidden Meaning of Dreams, taking an exam your dreams might reveal an underlying fear of failure.
"Examinations are stressful experiences in which you are made to face up to your shortcomings," he writes. "To dream of failing an exam, being late
for one, or being unprepared shows that you feel unprepared for the challenges of waking life."
I personally do not have any shortcomings (well at least none I will admit to), but I have to go now, I'm late for an appointment with my shrink.
