Hotter than the sun!

Sandia National Laboratories has achieved the highest temperature known to man!

Small tungsten wires were subjected to a gigantic pulse current of 20 million Ampere, turning the wires instantly into plasma, much like the electronic bridge wire concept. Since the plasma is charged, it can be compressed by powerfull magnetic fields to reach a temperature of over 2 billion degrees and a power pulse 80 times larger than the entire world's electrical power usage! :o

The tungsten wires are the size of a pencil lead, but needs the huge water basin for insulation and cooling of the entire rig. The lightning charges in the picture are from the primary discharges from the plasma in the center of the rig...

Quite interesting was that the machine produced a lot more energy than was put in, though scientist have no explaination yet from where the extra energy may arise...

New power source?!

Very Cool!

I've got 3 X 0.5 uF 50,000 Volt capacitors that I got from Sandia national labs.

Do you think I can create my own fusion generator as well? :D

I'm sure you could make a z-pinch with those capacitors, if they are pulse rated which they probably are. They don't have to be that huge :).
