Dissolve your sodium salicylate in water, and drip 12M hydrochloric acid into the solution until no more crystallizes out. There exists an equilibrium
between chloride, hydrogen, sodium and salicylate ions, which is driven to the right, forming solid salicylic acid, due to the formation of this
weaker acid and its poor solubility in water. When no more salicylic acid precipitates out, vacuum filter the solids, wash with ice-cold water, and
recrystallize if necessary.
