Can anybody please highlight whether Thionyl chloride and Chloroacetyl chloride are stable to lead in a lead-lined reactor? I know that it is stable to glass-lined ones but i wanted to know about lead-lines ones.

According to the Meelor's Sulfer from the library area, SOCl2 doesn't attack lead until at least greater than 200 C.

However, any HCl formed might cause problems. Lead is attacked by HCl, in aqueous solutions in the right range of strengths the lead chloride formed protects the lead from much reaction. However, some lead does go into solution, and with strong solutions of HCl soluble chloride complexes are formed. I can't answer in regards to dry HCl and lead, but I'd be a bit worried.

Note that oxygen tends to make acidic corrosion of lead worse.

Usually the manufacturers of procesing equipment will have tables listing the chemical resistance of their various products. Books like the Handbook of Corrosion Engineering might help as well.
