Why not just heat the polymer w/ acetone under pressure?
With out the proper gear = Boom
Heated pressurized solvents are a max safety situation.

This is kind of ridiculous. Not all polymers dissolve in the same solvents. Dissolution of polymer is complicated. I, at least, require more
information before I can answer your question.
If you mean polystyrene, then hot acetone or DCM (as mentioned) are pretty decent. THF is nearly ideal (not good!), and takes quite some time to
dissolve polystyrene.
Otherwise... Look up "theta solvent" and "good solvent," and you will learn the difference between "ideal" and "good." Then, lookup why all of this
matters if you would like to determine the molecular weight.
