C has no melting point it sublimes at 3600 C. Under pressure it should melt, but is liquid carbon ever made in the lab ?

I'm sure they've made it sufficiently to determine its melting point at various pressures (I've seen phase diagrams), but it's not routinely done, as
the heat and the pressure obliterates most other materials.

Melting carbon is done in carbon research. The two methods commonly used are lasers and resistive heating. The crucible used? Carbon. In other words,
they melt part of larger mass of carbon using local heating.
