Bromination with BromoSuccinimide

Plan_B - 8-8-2015 at 22:56

Hello again.

I was reading up on bromination techniques and was wondering how bromination with N-bromosuccinimide works.

I can't find any good/simple literature on the subject.

If one would normally use 10gram of Br2 in a rxn,
how much N-bromosuccinimide would one use instead of the bromine ?

Thanks again!

One mole of NBS is equivalent to one mole of bromine, due to its reaction with the HBr formed in bromination.
Here's a good guide: http://www.masterorganicchemistry.com/2011/06/10/reagent-fri...

and it's always good to search the site before starting a new thread: https://www.sciencemadness.org/whisper/search.php?token=&srchtxt=bromination&srchfield=body&srchuname=&f[]=all&srchfrom=0&filt er_distinct=yes&searchsubmit=Search
