Can somebody tell me what lead oxide is used for? I found a small bottle of this and its quite heavy, hence the name. It looks like a heavy liquid
kind of a pinkish color,i wont open the bottle because i dont know what its for. Im curious what its used for tho. My brother who passed recently was
into chemistry and had numerous chemicals and lab supplies this is how i got this . Kitsune1 - 23-4-2015 at 10:57
Lead (ii) Oxide (PbO) can be used as a precursor to lead compounds; also it can be used sometimes for condensation reactions in organic chemistry.
Other than science I know it has be used in ceramics as a component in glazes though due to it's terrible toxicity this is being phased out alongside
it's use in paint.
However, the pink colour and that it is in a liquid form leads me to think that either it is not PbO as it practically is white and insoluble in
water, alcohols and most other solvents. The weight would lead me to thinking that it would be something of a higher Relative Atomic Mass, such as
Lead. Sorry I can't be of more useWizzard - 23-4-2015 at 17:08
