New lab stuff and Help identifying some!

shr3k - 11-2-2015 at 20:50

Hey guys.

So after some issues with ordering Lab Glassware from china, PayPal issues mostly, I stumbled on a job lot of Lab and Distillation Glassware for a good price!

After a 9 hour round trip I'm now trying to build an inventory of "stock" to figure out what to keep in my personal lab to start with and what can be sold/donated.

I've literally looked through and not really gathered much info at the moment.

I know some of the goodies I have found so far are

1 x 1000ml Seperatory Flask
1 x 100ml Soxhlet Extractor
2 x 1000ml 3 neck round bottom flasks
There are 9 distillation tubes, not sure on exact names yet but should be enough to learn the basics!

There are about a hundred pippetes, loads of flasks and about 80 glass connectors of various shapes and sizes.

Theres a few experiment objects, a metal box with a candle? And what looks like 5 metal rods on a stand. More pics to come.

Several different size seperatory flasks and dropping flasks.

Loads of the glass tubes, not entirely sure on their use just yet.

Loads of stoppers and attachments.

Glass vacuum pump/syringe

Anyway, I need some help identifying a few things! And hopefully I can give something back to the forums as well :)

Thanks

looks like Graham and Leibig condensers, some reagent bottles, various split neck adapters similar to a Claisen adapter, and a few vacuum trap adapters in there at a glance. Can you get more dispersed/closer pics later?

Also see some flasks (round bottom, Erlenmeyer), drying tubes....

What a score! Well done.
There are some addition funnels in there -- a couple without stopcock. and one with.
Looks like you have a lot of adapters and connectors of various kinds.
A couple of liebig condensers with the graham condensers.
You gave some gas jars, a couple of bell jars and what looks like two boxes of thistle funnels.
I spotted a reagent bottle or two in there as well.

What it looks like though is you will have something of a job finding stoppers and stopcocks for all of the pieces. It looks like there is an assortment of sizes. If the sizes are printed on them then you can probably buy replacements easily enough. If you have a bunch of non-standard sizes and/or you can't measure accurately then you might have some difficulty with some of the pieces.
Still, a nice haul!

It looks like a mix of medical waste processing, and nuclear de acceleration equipment. Very dangerous stuff to be near let alone own.

I would suggest sending it to a proper handling facility for a long over due cremation of said items.
Now luckily for everyone involved I am a contaminated glassware cremation specialist. (either I or the glassware is contaminated, you choose)

If you didn't fall for that... You have a nice assortment of distillation glassware. It's a great beginning.
Looks like an addition funnel, a couple Separatory funnels... Looks like about 90 + percent is useful.

You had me for a moment, started to panic, came from a school as well!

I only paid 200 gbp and I was going to spend that on just a few pieces, so hoping I can build a small set up. The Soxhlet was the most interesting for me, I really wanted one and didn't see it until I got home!

More pics soon

That;s anywhere from 40 - 200.00 USD just by itself.
I'd say you did well.

First chore? Wax Off! See what you can clean up w/ soap, and water, then Acetone, then... so on.

Nice score!
