Ammonium Sulfate instead of Ammonium Chloride

Hi:

I am looking at generating Methylamine HCl by the reaction of formaldehyde and Ammonium chloride, however, I don't have quite enought Ammonium chloride. Would it be possible to substitute Ammonium Sulfate?

Thanks!

Where would the Cl in the Methylamine HCl come from if you used Ammonium Sulphate instead of Ammonium Chloride?

I assume one would end up with methylamine sulfate rather than chloride... but would it be possible? Ammonium sulfate is sold at my local garden store while ammonium chloride is not...

Well, you must have salt, and sodium sulfate is of low solubilty, just take the ammonium sulfate to ammonium chloride by reaction with NaCl and crystalization of sodium sulfate.
