Sciencemadness Discussion Board

Can we say "ahem-blinkered-ahem!!!!

Dr.Freemanstein - 4-8-2005 at 16:33

I am posting this here, cos the other forums do'nt seem to be appropriate.

This web-site is called "Science" Madness, right???

Whats with all the Chem???

I have seen many posts on here get dissed for discussing Physics probs etc.

Where are the Forums for the many other facets of science?? are we expected to dump every other topic in here??

And while im here, one of the greatest Scientists that ever lived once said that we must "embrace ambiguity and paradox" (Da Vinci)
What is with the major need for proof on these boards, science is sometimes just admitting that it works cause it does!!!!
And not just blowing new ideas out of the water because they look like they wont work. If we all took that route, every globe in every classroom would not be a "globe" !!!!!

Dr.Freemanstein - 4-8-2005 at 16:42

While im on it,

Neutrino
"Probably just one of the lost fools adrift in a sea of pseudoscience and speculation"

See above!!! How closed minded can you get???

I ask u???

Why i am i talking to you guys at length about this anyway???
I guessed from the start that you are all problematic of science these days anyway!
Proof, proof, proof, proof, measure, measure, measure!
Has anyone got an imagination behind their sliderule???

I'm out of here and never frequenting this bullshit board again

Fuck-you and goodnight

Yes, i am aware of what i said, but i have thought that i would not give in to the shit i was getting

BromicAcid - 4-8-2005 at 17:53

Yes, Dr. Freemanstein, this is sciencemadness, however you seem to be oblivious to the .org part which is of course shorthand in some circles for organic or in this case organic chemistry, it just so happens our forum branches out into inorganic and sometimes into the dilluted chemistry sciences such as physics. ;)

What you want is sciencemadness.com which is at the moment non-existent. So it seems to me that you would have been one of those poor individuals who would have accidently gone to whitehouse.com at school and found massive amounts of porn rather then whitehouse.gov to find the correct pages relevent to conventional education.

Duuuuuh!!!!

.org stands for Organisation......dipshit!!!!

BromicAcid - 4-8-2005 at 17:59

And the little winky smily face (;)) Means I'm joking with you :D

kbk666 - 4-8-2005 at 18:01

For christs sake dude give it a rest already. If you don't like whats discussed here, leave.

Dr.Freemanstein - 4-8-2005 at 18:04

I just take offence to being blown out of the water when i speculate an idea thats all!!!

12AX7 - 4-8-2005 at 18:27

Yeah, but... kinda the heart of the matter is that last post you ever so humorously made, getting at the very heart of science: theory and proof supporting each other built on a foundation of logic progression.

I do agree with your latest post. Variety is the spice of life and one cannot confine himself to some narrow frame of mind, of lifestyle, it's just too boring! Ambiguity and paradox, as your Da Vinci quote mentions, are just some of the fun.

As for SM, I guess the madness part is being expressed in madly only offering chemistry in preference to the higher forms of science like physics. (:D :D)

Tim

P.S. FYI... bad form to go back on your word. In the future, try not to either a. say things you may have to take back and make yourself a fool (as here), or b. make promises you can't keep. (Note any kind of word counts as a promise, and the smaller the better - it makes you out as a strong, trusting person!)

P.P.S. This belongs on Whimsy, PM a staff member (mod or admin) for PW.

Sciencemadness.org is chemistry-focused because about five years ago I was kidnapped and tormented for days by a Cornell professor of physics and his biologist henchmen. Since that time I have sworn that the other sciences will get their comeuppance. Eventually, everything but chemistry will be forgotten as sciencemadness.org comes to dominate the internet and people grow too lazy to look at paper books. It's a fiendish, Stalinesque rewriting of history and future history. Keep it under your hat.

neutrino - 4-8-2005 at 18:53

Speculating on an idea is OK, but you were actively trying to justify something with the pseudoscience which many of us have come to loathe and ridicule. Then you attacked science itself with a certain brand of self-righteousness which we have especially come to hate—that expressed by religious fundamentalists.

I just hope you one day learn the difference between real science and the stuff you're used to reading.

Twospoons - 4-8-2005 at 19:17

Just because someone disagrees with you is no reason to get all pissy and go hide in a corner and sulk. When you come to a board like this with an 'off-the-wall' idea, be prepared to defend your position with well informed, logical arguements.

A good debate with the smart cookies who inhabit this board is a lot of fun, so sit back and enjoy the ride. That way we might all learn something.

sparkgap - 5-8-2005 at 06:43

I'm seeing a certain carrion eating bird having a fit when he sees this thread...

neutrino and Twospoons basically put in a nutshell the reason why we were taking your ortho/para-hydrogen idea(s) apart. Much of science is subject to peer review... so live with it. (Sure, it ain't objective, but that's another bag of worms...)

I also took offence at your "proof and measure" rant... 'cause either or both of them is the essence of what we do.

To those who didn't understand my reference to Lord Kelvin in the other thread:

Quote:

Lord Kelvin

"When you can measure what you are speaking about, and express it in numbers, you know something about it; but when you cannot measure it, when you cannot express it in numbers, your knowledge is of a meager and unsatisfactory kind: it may be the beginning of knowledge, but you have scarcely, in your thoughts, advanced to the state of science."

*sniff* I don't know anyone else who could express it more eloquently...

LOL, Polverone... :D

A Physics professor with biologist henchmen? Gross...

If even they are cooperating, there must be some gigantic conspiracy against chemistry, otherwise those two species would avoid eachother at all costs.

Therefore I suggest that any physics or biology traitor will be shot on sight..erm...I mean preyed on on sight.

Those who are conspiring against us envy the liberty and freedom chemistry gives us, therefore they will not hesitate to attack the very foundation of our beloved chemistry.
We must defeat the axis of evil forces and those who harbor, support and finance them at all costs!

Oh and Dr. Freemanstein...We are not the combine forces and you are not Gordon Freeman. Your computer screen does not necessarily reflect reality.
