Over-head Stirring in a sealed container?

FireLion3 - 1-8-2014 at 15:17

I'm in love with this overhead stirrer that I've been playing with. I can get up to 4500 RPM in a decent sized flask without any horrid turbulence throwing matter everywhere.

Does anyone know what kind of glass adapter I would need to stir through a 24/40 joint? Some of these reactions need to be refluxed and/or vac distilled.

They go by the name Stirrer Bearing and there are plenty of different types. A decent one will let you pull down to ca. 3 mm Hg though there are purpose built high vac stirrer bearings that will go down to 0.01 mm Hg.

Ah yes, an age old problem. We like overhead stirring, but we also need sealing. Really useful units exist, but they are spendy.

The Parr Pressure Reactor does it nicely.

Also, the Dynamag http://www.gotoppi.com/mixers/dynamag.html
